Only in Denmark

Jess and Jeff (her sweetheart AKA the father of my coming grand baby) will be in Denmark on Wednesday! I have been trying to think of all the things we want to show Jeff on this, his first, visit! We have a road trip planned to Amsterdam which means he will get to say that he visited THREE countries while here which will be a very cool thing for a guy who is on his first trip across the big pond. We will also take the train to Copenhagen for the day and we will end up, at some point, at the west coast so he can see a bit of the history of WWII that dots its shores. But there are still those "only in Denmark" things that I have been experiencing the last four years that I want to tell him about....

So I have been starting to compile a list based on the photos I have on my phone the last few weeks, just to give him a taste!
Only in Denmark are the "normal" bike riders SUBSTANTIALLY older than  me.

Only in Denmark do we call things "AMERICAN" that have almost ZERO semblance of
 something actually American!

Only in Denmark will you see a kid using her SAND TOYS at the beach while wearing the same clothes she might wear when snow skiing!

Only in Denmark would I take a picture of a Chevy truck because it STICKS OUT like a sore thumb in our parking lots! And as you can see, it does not quite fit!

Only in Denmark would folks (yes, us included!) stand out (for several hours in an effort to get a good spot!) in temps hovering just above freezing to watch a bike race...in which your "part" lasts about 5 seconds.
And only in Denmark do you see a man in CLOGS (AKA Wooden shoes) riding his bike and realize he is NOT the exception for men his age....
I cannot wait to show Jeff all the interesting things about Denmark's history, geography and culture...and maybe for once, Jess might actually be interested in it, too! :-)

Jess is interested, she just doesn't want you to KNOW she's interested :)

I would bet that Jeff's eyes will take in a lot of things he didn't expect! Lucky him!

The Chicago-style "deep-dish" / "deep-pan" pizza was invented in 1943 by former University of Texas football star Ike Sewell. After having created the deep-dish pizza he established Pizzeria Uno with a friend of his, in Chicago the same year. The original Pizzeria Uno and Pizzeria Due restaurants are now part of the Uno Chicago Grill restaurant chain with more than 150 restaurants.

That's why deep-pan pizza boxes usually have an American flag on them, while the flatter boxes for the traditional thin-crust pizzas often have an Italian flag on them instead.

Anonymous- it is not the DEEP DISH I have the problem with.... although what DK calls DEEP dish is not quite the same as what we have in the US... the issue is what is on top of the pizza... things you would NEVER see on a pizza in the US. They have a very middle-eastern flair here ... at least in Herning.

I like the last photo. One of the things I love about Denmark is that the men are not macho and they sure can cook up a storm in the kitchen. At least, in my family they can.

I saw a big Dodge Ram in the Bilka parking lot the other day and it definitely stuck out like a sore thumb.
