Boys' time

After three years of marriage, I did it! I "let" Mads go on a Boys' Only Ski Trip to Austria. Ok, perhaps "LET" is not the best word choice, but you get the general idea. I know of lots of friends who have spouses that take trips with their friends (sans spouses) and I always thought how sad that was.....

However, I have changed my tune! I think it is a HEALTHY thing that spouses do SOME things apart. It's good for the individual and it's good for the couple. Especially when there are things that one spouse enjoys doing that the other does not-- and I think it's good for our guys when we let the little boys inside them come out every now and then as they race down that mountain with all the other "boys". If you are in a committed relationship, you can handle those separations every now and then and plus, they really do make you appreciate each other!

For instance, as I watched the snow fall and cover up the sidewalk outside our house (while Mads was gone), I realized how much I depend on him for those cold, yucky tasks that I am just too wimpy to do. :-) Doesn't sound like that big of a deal, but to this Texas gal, having a husband that does all the outside stuff in the Danish weather, it is a SUPER BIG DEAL! I want him to know how much I appreciate those little things!

So I am glad that Mads got to go skiing on what I have learned will now be an annual event, but I am even more glad that we are so great together that we are ok being apart....

What? You don't ski either....hehe, from one Texas gal to another- I totally get that, though I'm planning on working on the cross country skiing, lot less risky then the downhill!

It is extremely healthy to have activities apart, something we've also begun admitting..remembering you are two individuals, even though you are one couple! But don't forget, for every boy's trip there needs to be a girl trip also- so where shall we go??? ;-)))
