Glædelig Kristihimmelfartdag!.... Happy "Kristihimmelfart" day

Kan du huske da jeg skrev om de danske forårstid helligdage? (Læs HER.)

Can you remember when I wrote about all the great holidays we have during the Danish springtime? (Read HERE.)

Jeg tænkte meget på idags helligdag-- "Kristihimmelfartsdag" (som er faktisk "den første pinsedag") og undrede mig hvorfor danskerne kalder det "Kristihimmelfartsdag". Hvis man forstår hvert enkelt ord, kan måske man forstå det hele ord...
Så vi skal "Break it down"... (men jeg indrømmer at jeg elsker alle danske ord som har "fart" ind dem! Ja, jeg er ligesom et barn sommetider....)

I was thinking quite a bit about today's holy day-- "Kristihimmelfartsdag" (which is actually the "first ascension day") and I wondered why on earth the Danes named it "Kristihimmelfartsdag"?! If you can understand each little word inside the one big word, it might be easier... So I think we should "break it down"..... (however I do have to admit that I have a certain fondness for all the Danish words that have "fart" in them....Yes, I am juvenile sometimes...)

Kristi- Christ
Himmel- Heaven
Fart- Speed
Dag- Day

Så efter min mening, oversætter det til/
So in my simple mind it obviously translates to:

"Jesus, hurry up and get to heaven day".

We were driving past the church on Kristihimmelfartsdag when my 7 year old daughter asked why there were so many people going in. I suggested they were there to wish Jesus Bon Voyage.
