Vejene af Jylland ... The roads of Jutland

Although I have not found a full time job in Denmark yet, I am so very thankful for the hours I have been given to teach my few English students. All of my students work for Danish companies where they are now being asked to use English on a daily basis, so my job is to help them sharpen the English skills that most learned so long ago in high school. In September I worked only two hours a week...in October my two hours increased to four a week and in November, four increased to ten. I do not have any students in Herning , so I have quite a bit of time in the car, driving back and forth to the companies where my students work. (I sing quite often in the car... and quite loudly! Danish TV is not so great in my opinion, but I LOVE Danish Radio!)

Hvornår at bruge mit tåglys.
Hvornår at sætte min parkeringklokke.

Today as I drove to Kolding for a teaching session, I thought about the time I have spent on the roads of Jutland. I have seen many wonderful things (and taken photos of them as I drove!!) and I have learned many things about driving in Denmark, such as--

To always turn on my lights when driving.
What are the best routes from Herning to other cities.
Why I should downshift to 4th gear when I am passing another car. (Shelly, are you proud?!)
When to use my fog lights....yes, fog lights in a car!
When to set my parking meter clock.
Which roads in Jutland I like and which roads in Jutland I hate!

Last month, I only worked three of the four weeks since my parents were here, so I was curious about how many kilometers I have driven.... so I did some math!

Herning to Skive- 124 kilometers roundtrip--5 times
Herning to Ikast- 24 miles roundtrip- 5 times
Herning to Kolding- 190 kilometer roundtrip- 2 times
Herning to Ringkøbing- 114 kilometer roundtrip- 2 times
Herning to Holstebro- 84 kilometer roundtrip- 1 time
so in one month (in fact 3 weeks), I drove 1432 kilometers!
WOW...I am tired! :o)

That's a lot of driving!

Here in Sweden the headlights go on automatically when you switch on the engine as it is law always to drive with them on - even in full blazing summer sunlight.

LadyFi...they switch on automatically here too...except when your car is a 1994 honda civic! :o) They were not making auto lights back then! LOL

but that 94 civic has gotten me from point A to point B and back again, so no complaints here!

Great job with your teaching and driving! I saw that you listed your driving in km, and remember your comment about my 10K race coming up so I converted your km into miles, just for fun...

1432 kilometers = about 890 miles

That is a lot of miles... that's like me driving back and forth, DC to NJ, about 6 times!!! lol

Keep up the awesome work!! :-)

I bet you've seen a lot of beautiful things on all those drives! In over three years, I've managed to never drive once here....and Michael only once. crazy.
