Me on a bike??

Shelly and I spent the day together, shopping, talking and just hanging out. The plan was for me to practice driving her standard transmission Honda, but the traffic was crazy today and I was too nervous to work on my skills with her car and all those crazy Dallas drivers.

Shelly og jeg havde en dag sammen, handler og snakker. Vi har brug for mig at øver kører hendes bil men der var meget trafik og jeg var nervøs om kører hendes bil i det.

We covered quite a bit of territory today.....from Willow Bend Mall to the Park and Preston Shopping Center to SAMs. We had a shopping plan of attack when we set out today and about five hours later, we had a trunk full of purchases, a completed list and we were headed back to Allen. It was an incredible day, but then I could not help but think how my Saturdays would look different when I move to Denmark. I know I will find friends there eventually, and I know I will have Saturdays where I get to hang out with those new friends the way I do with my friends here, but I also know it will "look" quite different. And one of those biggest differences will be our mode of transportation.

Vi gik i mange butiker og handlede og handlede og købte mange ting. Efter vi sluttede jeg syneste om mit liv i Danmark. Hvad skal vi lave i lørdag sammen? Handler? Hvor skal vi handle? På cykeler eller biler?

I told Shelly that Mads asked a few days ago if I wanted to have a basket on my new bike and then when I hesitated with my answer, he asked for reassurance that I did actually know how to ride a bike. We laughed. Of course, I can ride a bike. I ride it in the park. I ride it on the trails. I ride it for exercise on a predetermined route. But, I must admit, I have never ridden a bike in high heels. When I think of the many many pairs of shoes I own, I would not categorize most of them as
"bike shoes", but I am learning that in my future home, it does not matter what kind of shoes you wear. Take a look!

Ser!

Not only do the women on bikes in Denmark ride with all types of cute dress shoes and boots, but they also ride in whatever cute outfit they are planning to wear to work that day. And they do it with perfect posture! Wow, I have a lot to learn.

So am I up to the challenge of learning to bike to work, to my inlaw´s house or to the shopping center? I think so.... I guess we will remember this post dated February 23, 2008 and find out for sure when I start posting in June after I get home from the market....on my bike, with my groceries in my cloth bags in my bike basket. Only one rule for those of you who know me best and who will read those posts back home in Texas: NO LAUGHTER ALLOWED!
My goal is to look as cute as the women on these pictures above and to blend in!

should be interesting.........
det skal er interessant......

Oh, Kelli, you are too cute. We loved your Saturday. That is just our kind of wonderful day-shopping with a friend. We hope you told Mads that you wanted a large bike basket with side saddles on the back. (Hee, Hee)

Holmesie -- don't forget about the tall, bright, orange traffic flag attached to the bike's rear fender. And the "AA OOO GAH" horn...

A basket is a must especially for grocery shopping! I remember Marianne told me once that she can't imagine cycling in the heels and dressy clothes and thinks the women in Copenhagen are crazy for doing so! haha. :)

You're going to be a great cycling woman and look amazing doing it!!
