I have had alot of time for reflection the last 24 hours...
as I boarded the plane Wednesday morning that would take me from Denmark back to America, I had quite a bit of time to think...and have come to one conclusion....ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE.
People ask me what I am doing to prepare myself to leave a country where I have lived all my life...they ask me how I can possibly adapt to a new language, a new culture and a completely new way of life. And after 8000 kilometers of thinking, all I can really say is "have you heard of a man named Paul Potts?"
My brother-in-law, Mogens, asked me about American Idol while I was in DK this week. He asked if I had ever seen the UK version of it (of which also features Simon Cowell)... I told him I had not and so then he proceeded to share with me the story of Paul Potts, a mobile phone salesman in the UK, who appeared on the show last season. He asked me to watch the Youtube of Paul´s first performance on Britains got talent and he offered to buy me dinner if the video did not move me to tears.
Well, it did... but for more reasons than just the incredible sound of this very ordinary man´s voice...it did because it reinforced to me that ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE, even for the most ordinary of people. A mobile phone salesman can get a recording contract that changes his life forever.....and an educator from Texas can fall in love with a man and move to begin her life with him in another country....because anything is possible. Even moving to a foreign country where the language is different and where they don´t sell the kind of tampons I use.... If Paul Potts can knock the socks off Simon Cowell, then surely I can adapt to a new life in Denmark, right?!
