Reflections on being a mom....

Even though Mother's day is about six months away, I have been reflecting alot the last few weeks about being a mother. In the midst of raising a teenager, I have learned so much about one topic in particular: UNCONDITIONAL LOVE. Yes, I have learned about trusting your kid and being open with your kid and punishing your kid and even being mad about your kid.........but at the end of the day and when the sun comes up the next, it really is all about unconditional love.

Do I love her no matter what she does or what decisions she makes? And more importantly does SHE KNOW that I love her no matter what she does or what decisions she makes?

Jess has done most of the typical things that teens do--most of the same things that I did when I was her age (in fact, they are all the same when I stop to think about it.....) You know what they say "apple....tree" LOL

I have just thought alot lately about how amazing she is...how she has a VOICE and OPINIONS that she is not afraid to vocalize....how she cares about people more than she cares about herself.... and how she has a way of brightening my day now matter how bad it may seem at the time.

I am so proud of her and when I saw this picture of her from last week's homecoming dance, I realized how grown up she is...my baby girl is growing up. And I am pretty damn proud of the young woman that she is becoming. I am blessed and life is great......

I was a pretty nerdy teen, but I became quite a bit more, ummm, colorful, in college.

It all gets out of our systems one way or another. It's so important for kiddos to have grown-up role models, who show them success, support, and unconditional love!!! :-D

As for me...I am so happy that I still have a child-like desire to explore and learn about the world. I hope to always remain endlessly curious and have a sense of optimism and fun...
